A Great Ride / Rex & Ken do QLD

After many chats about which way to go the final decision was made. Before we knew it the dates had come around and it was time to hit the road.
A ride to Queensland and back safely (if possible).
Saturday 16 March I rode to and stayed the night at my daughters place near Liverpool. The Next day the trip really started.
Sunday 17th I headed off over the Blue Mountains towards Ilford north of Bathurst, The ride over the mountains was a little disappointing with all the road works and traffic. Turning off the Great Western Hwy after Lithgow and onto the Castlereagh Hwy and on for about 100k, staying the night at Ken’s property.
Next day we both pulled up at a town called Kandos, where we went through a motorbike museum called Bikes and Buds, the first Harley motor that landed in Australia still sits in this museum. We took off through the Goulburn National Park headed for Tamworth. This was one of the best rides I’ve been on in a long time. Riding through the deep valleys and mountain heights, it was so picturesque. We arrived at Tamworth Monday night and enjoyed a great meal and a cool beer.
The next phase took us along the New England Hwy and through Armidale, Glen Innes, Tenterfield, Stanthorpe and final we pulled up at Warick Qld for the night.
This is where Ken and I split up for a couple of days. He headed onto The Gold Coast to see some friends. I headed to the middle of Qld. Dalby to see my sister where I stayed the night. Dalby has been flooded 3 times this year and the roads a shocker. I was stuck in waiting traffic for over 45 minute several times going in and out of Dalby. It’s not cool sitting in that Queensland sun. Someone should invent a portable air conditioners for just such an event.
Anyway the next day I headed for the Gold Coast. It’s about a 5-hour ride if you don’t get lost. It took me 6, But it was good finding my way around Brisbane.
Stayed at Coomea 2 night to catch up with friends and family. It was good to have a day to rest and recover.
I rode down to Burleigh Heads the next day and stayed there for the night. It’s changed from the last time I was there; as a matter of fact there have been lots of changes along the coast. Old fishing villages have grown into major towns. Some good changes some not so good.
I caught up with Ken again and we headed down the old #1 Pacific Hwy and ended up cruising through Balina out to Lismore then came back down to the Hwy where we pulled into Yamba. A large storm caused us to stay there the night.
The next day we went into Coffs Harbour, road down to Kempsey and onto Taree, where we stayed at Ken sisters place. It’s great having friends and family all over the country.
Ken decided to stay for a few days, but I wanted to get back before the Easter traffic.
So I took off the next day and pulled into Gosford on the Wednesday night for a well-earned rest and some site seeing. The next day I headed back to Nowra going down on the new M7 sure beats going through Sydney.
Over all, the trip went without a hitch, didn’t have to put a spanner to the bike and it didn’t miss a beet. I was riding a 2001 Honda Shadow 750cc ACE and loving it.
Ken rides a New BMW. And he looks the part.
Ken and I went to Northmead High School together and caught up with each other 40 years later in Nowra and have had some great times and rides together.
The only thing now is if I want to enjoy a ride like that one, I’m not sure where I’d have to go. Any suggestions?
Stay upright.
